EARLY WEB EXPERIMENT · 2024

A Journey
of Chance

One small action.
Six possible doors.

ENTER THE EXPERIMENT

Curiosity begins
with a roll.

The working site uses a die to choose among symbolic pages. Explore the artwork and meanings in the original interface.

THE WORKING PROJECT

A Journey of Chance

Loaded only when requested. The original application keeps its own controls and visual identity.

AN ATLAS OF THE EXISTING OUTCOMES

Six numbers,
six visual directions.

The project uses symbols from different cultural and mythological traditions. These are the site’s selected interpretations, not universal definitions of the numbers.

INTERACTION AS STRUCTURE

Chance chooses the door.
The viewer gives it meaning.

This was an early experiment with JavaScript and CSS: a roll became a navigation decision. Instead of asking someone to select from a menu, the interaction gave them a reason to encounter an unexpected page.

The current implementation keeps track of discoveries, favors outcomes not yet seen and lets visitors revisit them. Its roll is designed for exploration; it is not a claim to simulate a perfectly fair physical die.

The site remembers discovery progress locally. Sound is optional, and the keyboard can roll or revisit discovered numbers. Those controls support the journey without changing its central gesture.

A connection to the next project

Chance and symbolic interpretation later became a conceptual precedent for Data-Driven Tarot. Here a number opens a page; there a physical card opens a reading of personal data.
